Our commitment to education is evident in our strong school system.  Our city offers education at all learning levels.  There are 16 elementary schools, nine in District 118 and seven which are comprised of Districts 115, 119, 175 and 181. Four high schools, Belleville East and Belleville West are public and Althoff Catholic and Governor French Academy are private schools.  You can also pursue higher education by attending SWIC Southwestern Illinois Junior College or St. Louis University and Lindenwood University which have a Belleville campus.

You’ll have peace of mind knowing Belleville is the major medical center for Southern Illinois with  two large and highly accredited hospitals, St Elizabeth’s and Memorial Hospital.

Belleville hosts several annual events throughout the year. One of the most recent additions is Art on the Square, recently named #1 Art Fair in the Nation by Art Fair Source Book.  Other events include the Oktoberfest, Chili Cook Off, Wine Dine & Jazz and a variety of parades.

Belleville is home to several public golf courses, a public swimming pool, numerous parks and 6 mile Richland Creek Greenway bike trail.  There are 2 newer YMCA’s, downtown and across from SWIC Southwestern Illinois College.

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows with its 200 landscaped acres is one of the largest and is home to The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.  Their Way of Lights display featuring over a million lights spanning 1.5 miles attracts thousands of visitors throughout the Christmas season.

Scott Air Force Base, established in 1917, is located 5 miles from Belleville.  We are proud to be their neighbor and of the contributions they make to our community.
